While Southcentral Alaska is greening up and spring is coming to Talkeetna, the jumping-off point for climbers of the Alaska Range in the area near Denali, the peaks and glaciers of the range are still covered with snow. The days are getting longer but winter is still hanging on. Winter-like storms will still hit climbers near the mountain that makes its own weather. While Denali dominates the climbing scene, the area is filled with lesser peaks and a multitude of glaciers. A recent ride-along with Army helicopters delivering base camp equipment to Kahiltna Glacier revels the grandeur of the Alaska Range in its winter glory.
