Moose gives birth in parking lot of Anchorage hardware store

A baby moose was born in the parking lot of an Anchorage Lowe's on Tuesday, to the delight of store visitors.

"I just seen a brand new baby moose 15 minutes old born in a Lowes parking lot!!!" one onlooker posted on Facebook, along with several photos of the mother and newborn.

Anchorage wildlife photographer Coby Brock, 38, drove out to the Lowe's at the Tikahtnu Commons shopping center on Muldoon Road after hearing about the newborn on Facebook. He said the pair were sitting in the shade in front of a Jeep, and the baby was still pretty wobbly.

As a photographer, Brock said he goes looking for moose, but it was the youngest he'd seen so far this year. A video posted Brock to his Kiss a Moose business page on Facebook showed the baby nuzzling up next to its mother, which was breathing heavily in the midday sun as onlookers captured the moment on their smartphones.

"In Anchorage, you're never surprised where you'll find a moose," Brock said.
