VP nominee Mike Pence gets 'HUGE' reception

Updated, 9:20 p.m. (Alaska time)

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence had the crowd on its feet in his keynote convention speech Wednesday night.

He lauded nominee Donald Trump and his family, saying, "you can't fake good kids," and had the crowd chanting "HUUUUUGE" when he, referencing Trump, told the crowd that "the change will be HUGE."

Pence framed presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as the "secretary of status quo," an ultimate insider in contrast to Trump's outsider status.

Alaska delegates jumped to their feet in applause at several points in the speech — including when Pence declared that Clinton should be disqualified from running for president and when he said that "America stands with Israel."

Trump walked onstage at the end of the speech and shook Pence's hand, but quickly exited. Pence spent several minutes taking in a standing ovation, and his family joined him on stage as the crowd chanted, "we like Mike."

Clinton is the villain at GOP convention

Updated, 6:45 p.m. (Alaska time)

At a convention that has become as much about presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as it is about Republican nominee Donald Trump, quite a few Alaska delegates are joining in the excitement.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi riled the crowd early in the night by proclaiming that Clinton "believes the laws don't apply to her." Clinton "believes our enemies deserve our respect and sympathy," she said.

Soon after, convention staff passed out "America Deserves Better than Hillary" signs and the crowd became a sea of anti-Clinton excitement.

Alaska delegate Vonna Hubsy called Clinton "corrupt" and a "liar," and concurred that Clinton should be in prison. The president of the United States should be a role model and a trusted individual that Americans can trust "will honor our wishes, not their own," Husby said.

Bad blood between Trump, Cruz shows in convention speech

Updated, 6:45 p.m. (Alaska time)

After a generally well-received start to the speech by former presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz Wednesday night, the crowd turned on him when GOP nominee Donald Trump entered the room during his speech, and many delegates began chanting,  "we want Trump." Cruz paused and credited it to excitement from the New York delegation.

Word leaked just before Cruz took the stage that he did not intend to endorse Trump in his speech. The crowd booed raucously when he finished without endorsing Trump.
