Letter: Humanitarian crisis

I appreciate Dorrance Collin’s commentary on the poor and lack of human and legal rights for people with chronic mental illness. His description is what has happened historically in Alaska.

Is there a humanitarian line between forced hospitalization/ medication and people on the street hallucinating, unable to care for themselves and becoming victims of the elements and violence? Walk down 3rd, 4th and 5th avenues downtown and you will see people who are seeing and hearing things, walking with no direction or goal, sleeping on doorsteps and obvious victims of assault.
