A small plane flying from Seldovia to Anchorage Monday afternoon landed safely on the Seward Highway near Potter Marsh after it ran out of fuel, according to an Anchorage Fire Department spokesman.
"It was a positive outcome," said AFD spokesman John See. "The plane was undamaged. There were no injuries."
See said AFD got a call reporting the downed Cessna 180 shortly before 2:20 p.m.
The plane carried only the pilot. He was able to taxi the plane to a parking lot near the south end of Potter Marsh, See said.
"Apparently he got really lucky and pulled it off and nobody got hurt and the plane didn't get hurt," he said.
Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said the pilot received fuel from a friend and got clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration to take off.
Police assisted with the brief closing of the highway while the plane took off from the roadway, Castro said.
"It was reported that he was airborne again at 3:53 p.m," she said.
Last month, a Cessna 182A landed in a nearby area on the Seward Highway. Three people rode in that plane. Police reported that no one was injured.
