Andrew W.K.'s nationwide speaking tour on "The Power of Partying" will make a stop in Anchorage at Tap Root. Presented by The Party Party (for real), he's promising an "intimate celebration of discussion, a pep rally for the inner spirit, and an optimistic look at the overwhelming intensity of life." 2016 UAA Guitar Symposium

The UAA Guitar Symposium is continuing through Sunday, with workshops aimed at helping players and teachers. 'Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story' film

Watch the documentary "Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story" at Bear Tooth Theatrepub as part of the One Course Discourse series. A panel follows the film to discuss efforts to reduce food waste in Alaska. This event is part of the Food Bank of Alaska's Take Action Against Hunger, an effort that's part of National Hunger Month. Harvest Recycle Fest

Marge Ford and the Alaska Polka Chips are ready to roll out an evening of entertainment and music at this annual fundraiser. Ticket prices are one for $50 and two for $75. There will be fresh-pressed cider from Valley apples, locally crafted beer from the Mat-Su's own Arkose Brewery, locally harvested and hearty fare and nifty door prizes. 7-9:30 p.m. Friday at the historic Palmer Depot. Bruce Hornsby

Many people know pianist and singer-songwriter Bruce Hornsby from his iconic '80s hit "The Way It Is." Since then he's collaborated with Ricky Skaggs, scored Spike Lee films, and even become one of the unofficial members of the Grateful Dead.
