According to a press release from parent company Sears Holdings Corp, Alaska's Sears stores were spared from an initial round of closures the company plans to undertake.
The first list holds 79 Sears, Kmart and other shops that are slated for closure. No Alaska Sears stores are listed, and there are no Kmarts in Alaska.
Sears Holdings said that it plans to close between 100 and 120 stores to raise cash after a poor holiday season.
