State election officials have denied the candidacy of a South Anchorage Republican who wants to serve in the Legislature, saying he hasn't lived in Alaska for the required three years.
But the candidate, Ross Bieling, says he met those requirements as of April 29 and plans to re-file.
"There's no story here -- it's just one of those things," Bieling said in a phone interview Thursday. "I'm fine."
Bieling has mounted an aggressive campaign for the seat held by retiring Republican Rep. Mike Hawker, and he faces former Anchorage Assemblywoman Jennifer Johnston in the GOP primary.
Bieling, who says he grew up in Ketchikan, lost a bid for a Florida congressional seat in 2010, and he says he has been in Alaska since November 2012.
He said he got his Alaska driver's license April 29, 2013, and plans to re-file his candidacy within a week.
