A Friday collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck involving three Kodiak men, with the motorcyclist flown to Anchorage for treatment, is under investigation by Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that the collision, initially reported at about 8:45 a.m. Friday, occurred on Spruce Cape in Kodiak. The pickup's driver, 44-year-old Jacob Hanohano, was turning his 2001 GMC Sierra left from Jackson Lane onto Spruce Cape Road when he collided with 31-year-old Craig White.
"As Hanohano was making the turn, he observed a motorcycle speeding towards his truck," troopers wrote. "(White) was driving a 2016 KTM motorcycle northbound on Spruce Cape Road and was estimated to have been driving between 40 and 60 mph. White lost control of his motorcycle and both he and the motorcycle slid under the truck."
White was initially treated for "multiple areas of trauma" at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center, then flown to Anchorage. Providence Alaska Medical Center staff listed White in fair condition Monday morning.
Neither Hanohano nor his passenger, 23-year-old Anthony Abell, were injured. Troopers said White was wearing a helmet, while Hanohano and Abell were wearing seat belts.
