Troopers say woman who hit, tried to spit blood at officers had slipped off cuffs and fled hospital

A 23-year-old Kalskag woman being held in custody at a hospital allegedly slipped off handcuffs and fled before being discovered hiding in a closet a nearby home.

She was arrested, but not before trying to spit blood at and hit officers, according to troopers.

Shannon Sergie was in custody on a previous charge but being medically cleared at the hospital in Bethel May 3 when she "pulled her hands from her cuffs" and left the hospital, Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online dispatch Saturday.

Troopers found Sergie "hiding in a closet" at a home a short time later.

She then tried to spit blood in a trooper's face before being taken back to the emergency room, where she tried to hit a trooper, the dispatch said.

Sergie was charged with fourth-degree escape, fourth-degree assault, violating conditions of release and attempted harassment.
