An Eagle River man previously convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a minor has been charged in federal court with possession and distribution of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday.
Joshua Michael Evans, 43, was arrested the same day the charges were filed in U.S. District Court in Anchorage.
An FBI agent working from Anchorage pinpointed an internet address associated with Evans downloading and sharing images and videos of child porn on two occasions in April, according to the complaint.
Police served a search warrant on Thursday and seized computers, cellphones and other digital equipment, according to the complaint.
"Evans was interviewed and admitted using file sharing programs, admitted his sexual attraction to children, admitted downloading child pornography using the internet at his residence and his work, and admitted trading child pornography images with others who were interested in child pornography," the complaint says.
The court document also notes Evans was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor in 2000, and he is a registered sex offender. The state's sex offender registry describes the charge as attempted sex abuse.
