UAA women pluck another standout from junior college ranks

UAA women's basketball coach Ryan McCarthy has landed another strong junior-college transfer to expand the Seawolves' recruiting class to four players.

Cloninger, a 6-foot forward, is the third recruit to commit to UAA, the NCAA Division II runner-up last season, when it delivered a D-II record 38 wins

Cloninger last season filled the score sheet for North Idaho College – 13.5 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists.

Cloninger played one season of Division I at Utah State, where she averaged 10 minutes, 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game as a freshman. She redshirted a season at North Idaho before helping the Cardinals to a 21-9 record last season. She will have two seasons of eligibility at UAA.

The Seawolves lost seven seniors off last season's record-setting team. McCarthy earlier announced the signings of two guards from the junior-college ranks and a guard fresh out of high school.

UAA is 103-23 (.817 winning percentage) in four seasons under McCarthy and has gone 67-5 (.931) the past two seasons.
