The recently ousted mayor of the North Slope Borough is one of seven candidates who will appear on the ballot in a special election to fill the seat she lost after voters removed her from office just weeks ago.
Charlotte Brower lost her seat in the April 5 recall election over ethical concerns after reports showed her office spent large sums of money on gifts, in some cases benefiting her relatives.
The borough clerk's office confirmed Wednesday that Brower is eligible to run again. The decision followed a review by borough officials last week to determine whether borough laws prevented Brower from trying to reclaim a seat she'd just been removed from.
The six other residents on the June 7 ballot are former borough Mayor George Ahmaogak; Harry Brower Jr., deputy director of the borough's wildlife department and Charlotte Brower's brother-in-law; Gordon Brower, deputy director of the borough's planning department and a cousin of Charlotte Brower's husband; former Barrow Mayor Donald Long; Borough Assemblyman Vernon Edwardsen; and Mike Aamodt, currently the borough's interim mayor.
