Meeting on the future of Anchorage transit set for Thursday evening

The future of Anchorage's bus network will be the focus of a workshop with city transit planners at the Anchorage Museum Thursday evening.

Transit officials have spent months preparing to launch an ongoing community discussion, "Anchorage Talks Transit," about key choices to be made about the bus system in the future.

Those choices generally are about whether the city should try to increase ridership by consolidating routes, or increase the number of routes to expand coverage.

"What's the mix we should be shooting for?" said Collin Hodges, city transit planner. "Once we get that framework figured out, we can more effectively invest in the system going forward."

The city has awarded a $121,236 contract to a Portland-based consulting firm, Jarrett Walker & Associates, to conduct the transit review.

The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at the museum.
