Tuluksak man charged with burglary at tribal police officer's home

A Tuluksak man faces assault and burglary charges, after Alaska State Troopers say he tried to break into a tribal police officer's home Thursday morning.

Court records show that 24-year-old Andrew Peter is charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and fifth-degree criminal mischief in the case. He was also taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant.

Troopers said in a Friday dispatch that they had received a report at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday that Peter was "attempting to break into a tribal police officer's residence and kill him and his family."

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters, asked why Peter hadn't been charged with attempted murder, said the case might be evaluated by prosecutors for additional charges after his initial arrest.

"People are charged with what we have evidence to show," Peters said. "Sometimes we have evidence but we don't know it that will prove the charges."

The Bethel district attorney's office said Peter was scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Friday, but there wasn't word on whether he might face additional charges.
