Jennings, Lindquist shine in Junior Olympic state swimming

Emmie Jennings won seven races, and Talon Lindquist won six races and finished second in another over the weekend to earn the female and male swimmer of the meet awards, respectively, in the Junior Olympics State Championships at Bartlett High.

Jennings, 18, competed for the Northern Lights Swim Club and won the 50-yard freestyle, the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

Lindquist, 16, swam for the Kodiak Kingfishers and broke state records in the 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle. He also won the 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke, and finished runner-up in the 50 freestyle.

Nearly 500 swimmers from around the state competed.

The Northern Lights Swim Club's open boys relay team of Max Snelders, Ryan Emili, Nathaniel Adams and Caleb Law broke the state record in the 400 medley relay.

Also, Troy Hesser of the Northern Lights Swim Club broke three state records in the 10 and under division.
