Two Kasilof residents were the driver and passenger who died Friday evening in a three-vehicle crash on the Seward Highway near Girdwood.
Next of kin for 25-year-old Cherise James and 36-year-old Jackson Moore have been notified. Their 1999 Subaru Forester struck two other vehicles, troopers said in a Monday dispatch.
"James was the driver of the Subaru and Moore was the passenger in the vehicle," troopers wrote.
Troopers said in an initial dispatch that the Forester was headed toward Anchorage near Mile 99 of the highway at about 7 p.m. Friday when it crossed the center line and hit a 2003 Chevrolet Express van, whose driver tried to avoid the collision. The Forester then struck head-on a 2004 Jeep Liberty towing a boat.
The men driving the van and the Jeep, 61-year-old Rodelo Susa and 29-year-old Joshua Brandon Lacy, both of Anchorage, didn't suffer significant injuries. Lacy's passenger, 48-year-old Anchorage resident Wendal Booth Jr., was taken to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment of his injuries.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said nothing further on the cause of the crash was immediately available Monday. Moore and Jackson both died soon after the crash.
"The passenger succumbed first at the scene and then the driver died a short while later," Peters said.
Everyone involved in the collision was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
