The Matanuska-Susitna Borough issued an air quality advisory for the Butte area at 3 p.m. Monday due to strong winds, dry conditions and dust.
The advisory will stay in place "until the dust subsides," according to statement from the borough environmental planner Frankie Barker.
Air quality around Butte may become unhealthy, the statement says. Children, the elderly and people with heart and lung issues are being asked to stay indoors and reduce their physical activity.
"The general population should avoid vigorous outdoor activity," the statement says.
A previous alert was issued for the Palmer area Friday. The quality around that Mat-Su community is currently moderate, according to a borough official.
