Anchorage School District Superintendent Ed Graff was named a finalist for a new job in Minnesota Wednesday, two days before the Anchorage School Board was scheduled to announce finalists for his replacement.
In a post on its website, the St. Michael-Albertville School Board announced Graff as one of three finalists for the district's superintendent job. The St. Michael-Albertville School District is about 30 minutes west of Minneapolis and enrolls roughly 6,000 students, according to its website.
Graff is originally from Minnesota. He started teaching in Anchorage in 1991 and took the job as Anchorage School District superintendent in 2013. The Anchorage School Board announced in October that it would not renew Graff's superintendent contract when it expires in 2016.
Since then, the School Board has entered into a contract with Iowa-based Ray and Associates to conduct a superintendent search. School Board President Kameron Perez-Verdia said earlier this month that 84 people had applied for the superintendent job.
Perez-Verdia is scheduled to announce the finalists for the superintendent position Friday afternoon. The School Board has also scheduled a 6:30 p.m. meeting at Bartlett High School on April 27 so the community can meet the finalists, according to a timeline posted on the district's website.
Graff will remain the superintendent until the end of June. He declined to comment Thursday on the potential Minnesota job.
"Graff said this is a personal decision and he chooses not to comment at this time," Heidi Embley, school district spokeswoman, said in a text message.
