Dakota Underwood launched South into the softball season with a grand slam in the second inning of the Wolverines' 9-1 opening day victory over Cook Inlet Conference foe Service on Wednesday at Albrecht Fields.
Underwood had a monster night at the plate. The senior catcher and third baseman went 3 for 3 with five RBIs, two runs and two doubles in addition to the grand slam.
Emma Kleven added two RBIs and Leilani Blair provided two runs and a double.
Pitcher Madie Webster gave up two hits and one earned run in five innings.
Sophie Bethke scored Service's only run. She went 1 for 1 with a double and a walk.
West 15, Eagle River 0
West rolled past Eagle River 15-0 in its CIC softball opener Wednesday at Albrecht Fields.
Rebecca Syrup led the Eagles on offense with five RBIs and one run.
Dymond Fields added four runs and two RBIs, going 2 for 2 at the plate, and Lesley Bingham went 3 for 3 with four runs.
Pitcher Allysa Brown furnished two strikeouts and didn't allow a hit in three innings.
Dimond 10, Eagle River 4
Hailey Shangin's three hits helped power Dimond past Eagle River in its 10-4 opening day win Wednesday at Albrecht Fields.
Shangin went 3 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Katie Hanson added one run and two RBIs for the Lynx.
Dimond 25, Bartlett 0
Dimond's second game was reduced to three innings due to the mercy rule.
The Lynx defeated Bartlett 25-0 Wednesday at Albrecht Fields.
Hanson pitched all three innings, finishing with four strikeouts and two hits allowed.
Megan Luther led the offense with four RBIs and four runs scored.
