A dog in the western Alaska village of Emmonak was shot and killed Friday by an Alaska State Trooper, who said the animal repeatedly showed aggression toward him.
Troopers said in a dispatch that the trooper found the dog Friday afternoon at a home in Emmonak, about 120 miles northwest of Bethel, after an initial report that the dog had bitten someone. The trooper told the dog's owner to keep the animal tied up.
"The trooper returned to the house a short time later to follow up, and the dog was unrestrained," troopers wrote. "The dog acted aggressive toward the responding trooper who placed his foot up and stopped (the) dog's advances. The dog charged a second time, and was fatally shot."
Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain didn't immediately have details Sunday on the initial dog-bite incident, or the breed of the animal.
Nobody was hurt during the trooper's visit to the home. The dog's remains were delivered to Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp. in Bethel to be examined for rabies.
