APU Nordic Ski Center wins Super Tour club relay title

The Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center continued its medal haul at the USSA Super Tour Finals on Thursday, when it captured the team relay title in Craftsbury, Vermont.

The team of Olympian Erik Bjornsen, Rosie Brennan, Scott Patterson and Chelsea Holmes clocked 48 minutes, 57.9 seconds. That gave it a 33-second win over a team comprised of skiers from clubs from Vail, Colorado, and Craftsbury, and which included Caitlin Patterson of Anchorage.

The relay featured two classical legs followed by two freestyle legs. Bjornsen and Patterson clocked the fastest times for their legs, Brennan's time was third-best on her leg and Holmes' time was fifth on her leg.

Bjornsen, Brennan and Patterson earned their second medals this week. Bjornsen won Tuesday's men's classic sprint and Brennan was third among women. Patterson finished second in Monday's men's 15-K freestyle.

The Super Tour wraps Saturday with a 50-K classical race for men and a 30-K classical race for women.

Heading into the finale, Caitlin Patterson sits first in the Super Tour overall standings for women, and Holmes is in third place. APU skiers own the top four spots on the men's side, with Eric Packer leading the way, followed by Reese Hanneman, David Norris and Scott Patterson.
