Kanady grabs another top-10 finish to lead UAA ski team in New Mexico

Anchorage skier Mackenzie Kanady racked up her second straight top-10 finish for the UAA ski team Sunday, skiing to seventh place in Sunday's 5-kilometer freestyle race at the University of New Mexico Invitational.

Kanady, fifth in Saturday's 5-K classic, has posted six top-10 finishes this season.

The Seawolves placed sixth among nine teams with 362 points in the two-day competition in Red River, New Mexico. Defending NCAA champion Colorado won the meet with 676 points.

Kanady's result was the best of the day for UAA, which had seven other skiers with top-20 results.

In the men's 5-K freestyle, Etienne Richard nipped teammate Mario Roncador by two-tenths of a second to take 11th place. UAA's Luca Winkler wasn't too far behind them in 13th place.

In the men's slalom, Sean Alexander placed 13th, Hughston Norton 17th and Curtis McKillop 19th.

UAA heads to Colorado later this week for NCAA West Regional Championships.
