Alaska's Norris, Patterson ski to Super Tour gold in 10-K classic

Alaska skiers David Norris and Caitlin Patterson turned in repeat performances Sunday in Lake Placid, New York.

The pair posted dominating USSA Super Tour victories in the 10-kilometer classic races, with Norris winning his second gold medal of the weekend and Patterson claiming her second major classic title of the month.

Norris, the winner of Saturday's freestyle sprint, took the men's 10-K classic victory in 28 minutes, 26.5 seconds. He was 44.5 seconds ahead of masters-level and three-time Olympian Kris Freeman and 57.5 seconds ahead of Alaska Pacific University teammate Lex Treinen.

Patterson, an Anchorage skier who trains in Vermont, won the women's race by more than a minute in 31:45.2. Earlier in the month, she captured the 10-K classic title at the U.S. Cross Country Championships.

Placing third in the women's race was APU's Chelsea Holmes in 33:04.9.

APU placed seven skiers in the top 10 of the men's and women's events. Joining Norris and Treinen in the top 10 of the men's race was Eric Packer (29:40.3). In the women's race, Becca Rorabaugh was sixth (33:17.3), Jessica Yeaton was seventh (33:32.4) and Rosie Frankowski was eighth (33:42.8).
