Tetzner rules open class in Montana Creek sled-dog racing

Michael Tetzner delivered the fastest 15-mile times Saturday and Sunday to win the open class of the Montana Creek Dog Mushers Association's club championship in Willow.

Tetzner's 14-dog team covered the combined 30 miles in 89 minutes, 5 seconds, to top runner-up Marvin Kokrine (91:39), James Wheeler (96:30) and Ed Dayton (99:47).

Kourosh Partnow won the eight-mile class, covering two 10-mile heats in 53:00 to Tetzner's 56:32.

Partnow also won the six-dog class, needing just 46:41 to finish two eight-mile heats.

Pam Schamber won the four-dog class in 33:02 for two six-mile heats, and Zachary Maruskie won the three-dog class with a time of 46:39 for two six-mile heats.

Because of lack of snow on trails in Anchorage, the Norma Rasmussen Memorial Race set for Saturday has been moved to the Montana Creek trails from Tozier Track on Tudor Road.
