Girls prep basketball: Chugiak, East, Bartlett open CIC season with wins

East 63, West 44

Sparked by three players in double figures, the East girls basketball team opened the Cook Inlet Conference season Tuesday by smashing West 63-44 at East High.

Sandin Kidder scored 16 points, Tennae Voliva 15 and Octavia Hines 11 for the T-birds.

West's Theyoung Puoy led all scorers with 19 points.

Chugiak 46, South 36

Nicole Pinckney tossed in a game-high 17 points Tuesday to spearhead Chugiak's 46-36 girls basketball win over South in a CIC opener at South High.

Eva Palmer chipped in 10 points and Randi McMullen nine for the Mustangs, who built a 24-16 lead in the first half.

South got a boost from Isabelle Lada and Morgan Lash, who scored 11 points apiece.

Bartlett 65, Eagle River 8

Led by Brandee Hawley's 17 points, 11 of 12 Bartlett players reached the scoring column Tuesday to power the Golden Bears' 65-8 victory over Eagle River in a CIC game at Bartlett.

Bartlett got another 11 points from Damaiya Ward and eight from Sudana Moyang.

Jenna Gelston paced Eagle River with five points.
