Prep basketball roundup: Dimond girls win Silver Bracket at Gator Winter Classic

The Dimond girls basketball team concluded the Gator Winter Classic on Wednesday with a run through the silver bracket culminating in a finals win.

The Lynx beat beat Moapa Valley of Overton, Nevada, 40-36 with an all-around defensive effort.

Alexis Shipman led scorers with an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double and Victoria Johansen chipped in 10 points for the Lynx.

Moapa Valley was led by Tapanga Durham with 11 points and Kinlee Marshall with 9.

Earlier in the day, Dimond beat White Pine of Ely, Nevada, 62-36.

Whitney Shapp led all scorers with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lynx. Johansen sparked Dimond on defense with five steals.

Ashlyn Huntington had 17 points for White Pine.

Lynx boys 4th in San Diego

The Dimond Lynx boys claimed fourth place in their eight-team bracket Wednesday at the Surf 'n Slam Hoop Classic in San Diego.

Dimond clinched fourth place with a 60-55 win over Kamiak High School of Mukilteo, Washington.

The Lynx finished tournament play with a 2-1 record that included a 41-39 Monday loss to Bishop Blanchet of Seattle and a 58-45 Tuesday win over Lake Mary Prep of Orlando, Florida.

The tournament featured 24 boys teams divided into three brackets.

East girls conclude Las Vegas trip

The East girls finished their three-day Las Vegas Holiday Classic trip with a 2-3 record Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds' final game was a 49-39 loss to Centennial of Las Vegas. Sandin Kidder led East with 18 points in the loss.

On Tuesday, the Thunderbirds defeated Bonita of La Verne, California, 53-37 behind Kidder's 11 points and Azaria Robinson's 10.

In a late Tuesday game, East lost to Highland (Arizona) 47-33.

Tennae Volivia had nine points in the loss and was named to the all-tournament team.
