Package filled with inert grenades prompts response at Anchorage airport

Anchorage Airport Police and Fire responded to the Alaska Air Cargo facility Wednesday afternoon due to a report of a suspicious package that turned out to contain inert grenades.

An on-scene officer reported that the box went through a scanner and its contents looked suspicious, said Deputy Chief Dave Schulling.

Multiple officers responded to the facility, and an explosive ordnance disposal team determined the contents were harmless, he said.

"It turned out to be nothing," Schulling said.

It is legal to ship the dummy grenades, the deputy chief said.
