Juneau police say a father has died and his son was seriously injured, after both men were stabbed during a dispute on Douglas Island early Thursday.
Police spokeswoman Erann Kalwara said Thursday afternoon that 37-year-old Jordon J. Sharclane was pronounced dead at a home on the 3400 block of Foster Avenue, in the Blueberry Hill neighborhood near the Gastineau Channel bridge, where the stabbing occurred. Michael Sharclane, 19, was hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital with "serious injuries" after the stabbing was reported at about 4 a.m.
"The investigation revealed that a dispute over property resulted in a fight and a knife was involved," police said in a statement on the case.
Kalwara said police are "still working on exactly what happened," with the full sequence of events in the stabbings not yet clear.
"We are not sure exactly where it occurred," Kalwara said. "The victims were found outside of the residence."
Nineteen-year-old Kevin Scott Nauska, initially described as "the other party in the dispute," was arrested just before 11:30 a.m. and held without bail at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. He is charged with one first-degree count each of murder and attempted murder, as well as two counts of third-degree assault and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Kalwara said Thursday afternoon that Jordon Sharclane was Michael Sharclane's father, and that the fight had taken place over "an item." Further details were unavailable Thursday, as officers continued to investigate.
Cedar Park, the Alaska Housing Finance Corp.'s low-income apartment complex on Douglas Island, is the only facility in the 3400 block of Foster Avenue.
