Hatcher Pass Road reopens after avalanche

The east side of Hatcher Pass Road has been cleared and reopened after being closed for more than a week because of avalanche debris in the road.

The road was scheduled to reopen at 6 p.m. Wednesday, the state Department of Transportation said.

Alaska State Parks will also open Hatcher Pass to snowmachines, DOT said. The pass was closed Nov. 24 after an avalanche.

Liam Walsh of Wasilla went missing in the Hatcher Pass area two days before the avalanche happened. Because of poor avalanche conditions, state troopers suspended the search Tuesday. On Wednesday, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said there were no developments in Walsh's disappearance.
