Six people escaped a house fire in the Meadow Lakes area without serious injuries Sunday afternoon, according to Mat-Su fire responders.
Ken Barkley, deputy chief for emergency services at Mat-Su Emergency Services, said fire crews were called to the residence, on the 10000 block of West Garten Drive, at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.
Arriving crews found a burning two-story cedar home but only minimal medical issues among its residents.
"One occupant was checked for light smoke inhalation but that was it," Barkley said.
No immediate cause for the fire has yet been determined. Barkley said crews haven't yet deemed the home a total loss, despite severe damage.
"The house is not habitable," Barkley said. "We're just starting our investigation and looking it over to see what we need to do."
The Red Cross responded to assist the home's displaced residents, Barkley said.
