Governor's mansion undamaged after fire truck responds to smoldering embers

JUNEAU — A fire truck was called to Gov. Bill Walker's state-owned mansion here Wednesday for an incident involving some "smoldering" embers, but the building was not damaged.

Some small pieces of wood fell into an ash box at the bottom of the mansion's chimneys "and there were embers smoldering in there," Walker's spokeswoman, Katie Marquette, wrote in an email.

The staff at the mansion noticed, called for help, "and the embers were put out immediately," Marquette wrote.

"There was no damage to the house," she added. "Lingering smoke smell only."
