East, Dimond advance to flag football finale

East and Dimond cruised to semifinal wins Thursday to advance to the Cook Inlet Conference flag football championship.

East beat Chugiak 28-7, and Dimond cooled off red-hot Bartlett 32-8. Both teams shut out their opponents in the first half.

The T-birds and Lynx wll play for the CIC title at 4 p.m. Friday at East.

East, the conference's top team so far this season, used four touchdown passes from Sandin Kidder to subdue Chugiak.

Kidder completed 15 of 22 passes with one interception and threw two TD passes apiece to Mookie Joubert and Jasmine Richard. Her second hookup with Richard was a spectacular 76-yard catch-and-run.

East, which led 14-0 at the half, got eight flag pulls from Joubert, six from Kendra Luiten and four from both Octavia Hines and Sierra Rosenzweig. Abby Johnson and Fua Filoialii each intercepted passes.

Dimond used a strong defensive effort to hold Bartlett scoreless for most of them game. The Lynx led 26-0 at the half against a Bartlett team that entered the game on a seven-game winning streak.

D'Shanna Schuster returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown and added six flag pulls, Makenna Boring had five pulls, including one for a loss of yardage, and Whitney Shapp had two pulls and an interception.

Offensively, Shapp caught a 29-yard pass from Megan Luther, who was 4 of 6 for 45 passing yards and rushed 14 times for 85 yards, including touchdown runs of 11 and 5 yards. Tiffany Jackson rushed for 99 yards on eight carries, one of them a 40-yard sprint to the end zone.
