Alaskans continue to shine in Arizona baseball showcase

The Alaska Baseball Academy all-star team picked up another victory Saturday at a showcase tournament in Peoria, Arizona.

The Alaskans ran their record to 3-1 in the Arizona Senior Fall Classic with a 5-2 victory over MVP Baseball, an all-star team that draws players from across the nation.

Kyle Fitzsimmons of Sitka threw five solid innings for the win, striking out eight while allowing three hits. Raleigh Pigg of Service allowed one run and struck out two in two innings of relief and South alum Mat Kley picked up the save.

Jonny Homza of South continued his sizzling hitting with another pair of singles – he has a hit in all four games in Arizona – and made some big plays defensively.

Wyatt Berg of Lathrop ripped an RBI double and scored a run, and both Charlie Bucolo of Chugiak and Nathan Bonck of Ketchikan singled and scored.
