New Muldoon building will include a Krispy Kreme, BurgerFi and a gym

Want a workout, a burger and a cruller without having to leave the building? You're in luck.

A new retail space with room for a burger restaurant, a gym and a doughnut shop is getting help from the Alaska Industrial Development Authority. AIDEA said its board has agreed to help finance $6.3 million of the building's total value of $9.33 million. The building will be near the corner of Debarr Road and Muldoon in East Anchorage.

The new building will house the state's first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, a Body Renew gym and Anchorage's second BurgerFi restaurant. Construction is expected to be finished in February 2016, when tenants can begin setting up shop. They are expected to be open for business by summer of 2016.

Krispy Kreme announced in 2013 that it would open a store in Alaska but the company missed its initial March 2015 opening date because it hadn't yet found a site in Anchorage.

Body Renew, a national fitness chain, already has four Alaska locations, including two in Anchorage and one each in Eagle River and Wasilla.

BurgerFi -- a national burger chain emphasizing natural ingredients -- opened its first Alaska location inside the Mall at Sears in November 2014.

AIDEA spokesperson Karsten Rodvik said groundbreaking ceremony for the project is set for Oct. 7.

The 21,132-square-foot retail space will create about 20 construction jobs. Rodvik said that when it's complete, about 90 permanent jobs will be offered by the building's three tenants.

AIDEA and Northrim Bank are financing about 75 percent of the total building value, Rodvik said. Pfeffer Development is the developer for the project, which is being constructed by Neeser Construction and designed by KPB Architects.
