APD: Man's stabbing at Midtown bus stop was domestic violence

Anchorage police say a woman arrested Monday evening in a man's stabbing at a Midtown bus stop knew the wounded victim.

Around 6:15 p.m. Monday, police responded to the bus stop at A Street and West 31st Avenue and found a man with stab wounds, police wrote in a release. Police arrested 41-year-old Crystal Williams at the scene as a suspect in the stabbing.

Williams was charged with first-degree assault and was taken to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro released further details on the incident in an email Tuesday morning.

"It was reported to police that the suspect Williams had gotten into a verbal altercation with the victim at the bus stop and then stabbed him in the chest," Castro wrote. "The wound was reported to be non-life-threatening and the victim was in stable condition. Alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the incident."

Castro said Tuesday that the man had been stabbed with a knife. She wouldn't discuss the nature of Williams' relationship to the victim Tuesday, in order to protect his identity.

"It's a domestic-violence type of situation," Castro said.
