Outdoors calendar: Events for the coming week

ONGOING

Denali National Park and Preserve trails management -- Park managers invite comments as part of a future trails management plan. The park's designated wilderness remains largely free of maintained trails but has seen more social trails formed. Managers are interested in revisiting their vision for trails as Denali approaches its 2017 centennial.The public is invited to comment on Denali hiking opportunities, proposals for future trails, development limits, bicycle and pet use, signs, winter trails and river trails, including a Nenana River Trail and Mount Healy Overlook Loop Trail. Alaska Dirt Divas Bicentennial Park bike ride -- 6:30-8 p.m., Far North Bicentennial Park Campbell Tract, Elmore Road. Ride on a mix of wider gravel trails and singletrack. Baxter Bog walk -- 8:45-9:45 a.m., Anchorage Waldorf School, 3250 Baxter Road. Join Clo Giffen, long-time friend of Baxter Bog, on a weekly walk to the bog. Come see the amazing seasonal changes. Meet in the school parking lot and walk together to the bog. Free.

Dedication of wildlife viewing tower at Reflections Lake -- 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Reflections Lake, Mile 30.6, Glenn Highway. Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge will host a celebration of the Reflections Lake Wildlife Viewing and Interpretive Tower. Dedication will be followed by light refreshments. Dave Rose Park Fix-It -- 9 a.m.-noon, Dave Rose Park, 201 Lane St. The Anchorage Park Foundation and Anchorage Parks and Recreation Neighborhood Park Fix-It series continues. Defeet Diabetes -- 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Kincaid Park Chalet. DeFeet Diabetes Trail Run is a new fundraiser with a 1- or 4-mile course. Registration opens 9 a.m., race begins at 10. Monday hikes are designed for beginners and families with children, on established wide and mostly flat trail about 3.5-4.5 miles in 1.5 hours. $1 for nonmembers. TUESDAY

Boating skills and seamanship -- 6-9 p.m., BP Energy Center, 900 E Benson Blvd. Nine-week course taught by U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary Whittier Flotilla. began Sept. 15 and ends Nov. 17. Bonny Sosa Tuesday Night Race Series -- 6:30-9 p.m., Kincaid Park Biathlon Range. The Tuesday Night Race Series is in its 48th year. COMING UP

International Fly Fishing Film Festival -- Glenn Massay Theater at Mat-Su College, Palmer. 7:30 p.m., Sept. 24. Short and feature-length films produced by professional filmmakers from all corners of the globe, showcasing flyfishing. Arkose Brewery will serve its ales, with 100 percent of beer sales to benefit a local non-profit. The festival is sponsored by Mossy's Fly Shop, Arkose Brewery, Cache Camper Manufacturing, Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation, Trout Unlimited Southcentral Alaska Chapter, and Cook Inletkeeper. Wood Stock 2015, Sept. 26, Alaska Huts Manitoba Cabin -- Mile 48 turnout of the Seward Highway. Help Alaska Huts celebrate National Public Lands Day with a weekend of work and play to spruce up Manitoba cabin and the surrounding area. Tasks include: stocking firewood, painting and touching up trim, site cleanup, trail work, minor carpentry and more. Bring work gloves, camp chairs, plenty of food. Saturday night will include a Manitoba potluck with a home-cooked vegetarian and omnivore meal. Bring a side dish and then dance the night away to music from a special guest.
