Man and dog die in East Anchorage trailer fire

A man and his dog died after a fire ignited in a Muldoon mobile home late Tuesday, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.

At 11:16 p.m., a neighbor called 911 to report that a mobile home in Glencaren Trailer Court had caught fire. The caller said one person was still inside, according to a statement from AFD.

The first fire crew got to 2221 Muldoon Road at 11:18 p.m. and reported that flames had swallowed more than 25 percent of the home. Another crew arrived a minute later, AFD spokesman John See said Wednesday.

While one fire crew went inside to look for people, the other fought the fire from outside, See said.

Inside, firefighters found a dog that had died and a man whom AFD has not publicly identified. Crews tried to resuscitate the man at the scene and while en route to the hospital, See said. AFD was told Wednesday that the man had died after arriving at the hospital. His body was sent to the state medical examiner, See said.

See said a fire investigator and the Anchorage Police Department are investigating the blaze. They had not yet determined the cause Wednesday.
