Two-time Class 3A state player of the year Gus Simmers of Anchorage has transferred to UAA and is immediately eligible to help the Seawolves' men's basketball team.
Simmers, who starred at Anchorage Christian School, has two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Division II Seawolves.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward transferred from Division II Malone University in Ohio, where he played all 28 games last season and averaged 3.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Simmer previously played one season at Palm Beach State College in Florida.
"We are excited to welcome Augustus back home and into the Seawolf Family,'' UAA coach Rusty Osborne said in a news release. "He has gained college experience while away the last two years and proven he can play well at this level.
"He is a strong, versatile athlete who we can plug into multiple positions.''
The addition of Simmers gives Osborne seven new players for the upcoming season.
