Dimond sweeps, Chugiak's Jordan dominates in season-opening cross country races

Dimond sweeps East

The cross-country season opened Saturday with a dramatic finish-line duel at Kincaid Park's Little Campbell Lake, where East's Margeaux Bailey beat Dimond's Kylie Judd by seven-tenths of a second to win the girls race.

Bailey finished the 3.5-kilometer race in 15 minutes, 19.1 seconds. Judd clocked 15:19.8.

Dimond's Jack Divelbiss topped the boys race in 12:52.6, 13 seconds ahead of teammate Niko Latva-Kiskola.

Dimond swept the team titles.

Chugiak's Jordan, Bartlett's boy triumph

Ty Jordan of Chugiak, the reigning Cook Inlet Conference boys champion, opened the cross-country season with a win Saturday.

Jordan took the 3-kilometer race at Beach Lake in 9 minutes, 56.9 seconds. Teammate Emma Nelson won the girls race in 12:06.6

Chugiak's girls won the team competition against Bartlett, which didn't field a full team.

The Bartlett boys, led by runner-up Brian Durr, beat Chugiak 24-31 by placing five runners in the top seven.
