A 14-year-old Delta Junction boy was recovering from non-life-threatening injuries Thursday after he was accidentally shot while he and his brother were manipulating a handgun, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers responded to the Cross Road Medical Center in the Interior Alaska town shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday after being notified by the clinic that a boy there had been shot, troopers wrote in an online dispatch.
Troopers said the 14-year-old grabbed a pistol by the barrel while it was being held by his 17-year-old brother and it fired.
The boy's injuries were not serious, but he was taken to a Fairbanks hospital for additional treatment.
