Anchorage police have identified the boy who they believe shot and killed himself Wednesday in a South Anchorage home as 3-year-old Brayden Heath.
According to a preliminary police investigation, Heath shot himself with a gun he found in the home. Police and medics responded to that home, on the 4000 block of Olympic Terrace Circle, after getting a report of a shooting shortly after noon Wednesday. An adult in the home had called 911, police said.
Heath was pronounced dead around 12:27 p.m., police said.
Police said that three adults were in the home at the time of the shooting. One of the adults was the boy's parent, police said.
Police said they interviewed the adults, but said they could not release details of those conversations, citing an ongoing investigation. The gun was taken as evidence and the case was forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review, police said.
Clint Campion, Anchorage district attorney, said Friday that no charges had been filed in the case. He said he continued to review material on the case as the investigation continued. Search warrants still had to be executed, he said, and seized evidence had to go through the state crime lab.
"I am considering information as it becomes available," Campion said. He said a decision on charges would likely take several weeks.
