Moose's Tooth Pub and Pizzeria has made the cut in travel site TripAdvisor's list of top 10 pizzerias in the U.S., and it's in elite company.
The Tooth came in third on the list of the best places to grab a slice, competing against plenty of larger-market pizza places, including joints in Boston and San Francisco and three in New York City.
Moose's Tooth, which has made a name for itself with its wide variety of specialty pizzas, array of local beers and notoriously long wait times to get a seat during busy periods, also ranks second on TripAdvisor's list of best restaurants in Anchorage, behind only Kincaid Grill.
The travel site recommends the Amazing Apricot (blackened chicken, cream cheese, apricot sauce, fresh red peppers, carrot threads, green onions, cilantro) pizza as among those visitors should try. Perhaps as a testament to the diversity of the Moose's Tooth menu, an informal survey of the Alaska Dispatch News newsroom revealed a wide variety of favorite pies, though the Backpacker (spinach, roasted garlic, sundried tomatoes, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, feta, mozzarella and provolone, garlic oil) and Spicy Thai Chicken (roasted chicken, red onions, bean sprouts, carrot threads, cilantro, mozzarella, provolone and peanut sauce) each received multiple votes.
Unfortunately, the presence of Moose's Tooth on the list -- and a slew of other good pizza places around the city -- isn't enough to launch Anchorage into the top 10 cities for pizza, according to TripAdvisor. Chicago and New York City topped that list.
