One dead in Sterling Highway crash near Cooper Landing

Alaska State Troopers say one person has died after a single-vehicle rollover Thursday afternoon on the Sterling Highway near Cooper Landing.

Troopers got report of the crash, near Mile 45, shortly after 2:30 p.m. A stretch of the highway was closed as emergency personnel responded, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman.

Troopers initially reported that one person was seriously injured in the crash. They later reported that the person had died.

By 4:30 p.m., one lane of the Sterling Highway had opened to alternating traffic, Peters said in an email. "So it will be slow going, but opened," she said.

Troopers were expected to remain on scene for a few hours, she said.
