Mobile home fire was arson, investigators say; suspect sought

A mobile home fire in East Anchorage early Monday was arson, fire officials say, and they're seeking public help finding a suspect.

Four adults and five children were inside the mobile home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.

In a release, the Anchorage Fire Department said it was notified of a residential structure fire at 3:37 a.m. Monday at 2221 Muldoon Road in the Glencaren Trailer Court.

After emergency responders got the blaze under control, investigators determined the cause of the fire to be incendiary.

"Someone poured an ignitable liquid around the exterior and lit it on fire," said fire investigator Brian Balega, who declined to comment on the type of liquid used.

He also declined to say how many people may have been involved in igniting the fire. Balega said investigators are looking into one person based on information provided by the mobile home's residents.

Fire officials said they are hoping someone in the community will come forward with additional details regarding the fire. Anyone with information is being asked to contact investigators at 907-561-7876. Information leading to an arrest could net the tipster a $1,000 reward.
