Fairbanks inmate dies at hospital

An inmate being housed at a Fairbanks halfway house died at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital on Monday, according to the Alaska Department of Corrections.

Dustin Wallace, 36, died at 5:05 p.m., said a release from Sherrie Daigle, DOC spokeswoman. She declined to provide any additional information Monday night on what led to his death or when he was admitted to the hospital, citing an ongoing investigation.

In April, Wallace was charged with violating conditions of release, Daigle said. She said Wallace had been at the Northstar Center, a facility near Fairbanks that provides temporary housing and transitional services for minimum security adults.

Alaska State Troopers and the State Medical Examiner's Office are investigating Wallace's death, Daigle said.
