WASHINGTON -- Michael Pawlowski will become deputy chief of staff for coordination of Alaska in Sen. Lisa Murkowski's personal office, beginning in August.
Pawlowski has been working for Murkowski in Washington, D.C., for six months as a policy advisor on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which Murkowski chairs.
He's well known in the state for his work on oil taxes as the deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue under Gov. Sean Parnell -- and by his nickname, "Fish." Pawlowski did not stay on board when Gov. Bill Walker took the helm.
Pawlowski attended Alaska Pacific University and has worked for Alaska Permanent Capital Management and the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority.
In his new position, Pawlowski will work with Kate Williams, who is deputy chief of staff coordinating legislative priorities, according to the Sen. Murkowski's office.
"Michael Pawlowski has a firm grasp of the impact of federal policies in Alaska and the challenges confronting Alaskans and their communities," Murkowski said in a statement. "With his experience working at both the state and federal level on a broad range of issues affecting Alaskans, he will liaison between Alaska and Washington, D.C. to help enhance coordination between what is going on at home and efforts in the nation's capital."
