Alaska State Troopers said they arrested two Chugiak residents early Saturday for driving under the influence after getting a report of a station wagon submerged in a Butte creek.
Troopers said in an online dispatch that they responded to the report just after midnight at Bodenburg Creek and arrested Gwen Cooley, 44, and Michael Cooley, 47, who were with their two children.
Both Cooleys were driving under the influence, the dispatch said. The dispatch did not make clear how that was possible and a spokeswoman for the troopers did not immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking clarification.
The pair was taken to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer. Gwen Cooley's bail was set at $500 and Michael Cooley's was set at $5,500.
Neither was to be released until sober, the dispatch said.
