A 7-year-old Unalakleet girl was severely injured in a dog attack Sunday, the Alaska State Troopers said.
The girl, who was not named by troopers, was reported to have been petting a tied dog in a dog lot near the beach in Unalakleet when the animal and another dog, which was loose, attacked her.
Unalakleet is a village of about 700 people on the Bering Sea in Western Alaska, 148 miles southeast of Nome.
"An adult intervened in the attack and the child was brought to the clinic," the AST dispatch said. "The child sustained severe injuries to her neck and face."
The mauling was reported to troopers at 11:13 p.m. Saturday, troopers said.
The girl was medevacked to Anchorage where she is being treated, the dispatch said. The dogs were killed by their owner Sunday.
