Su Valley earthquake rattles Southcentral Alaska

A 4.26-magnitude earthquake struck Southcentral Alaska shortly before 8 a.m. Monday morning.

The quake, centered about 17 miles northwest of Willow, was felt at least as far away as Anchorage, where it rattled computers and shook walls at the midtown offices of Alaska Dispatch News.

A U.S. Geological Survey site quickly received reports from communities ranging from Talkeetna to Anchorage.

Initial reports put the magnitude at 4.5, but those were later downgraded, while a preliminary epicenter, first reported to be about 22 miles from Willow, was later revised to the location nearer the Susitna Valley community.

Reached about 30 minutes after the quake struck, Matanuska-Susitna emergency services said they hadn't yet received any reports of damages.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
